A number of very stimulating conversations I have had in the past of weeks have encouraged me to start to fundamentally rethink my web presence.
A first thing I would like to do is to start blogging again. Blogging is something I have immensely enjoyed in the past, but which I have progressively come to neglect. Time has come to wake up this blog, which has been left dormant for a couple of years. This doesn’t mean that I would stop microblogging, much to the contrary, as using the Twitter platform has been quite a revelation for me. I have spent some time asking myself whether I should blog in English or in French, and after mulling over this for about a week, I have not really been able to make a decision, and have given up. I shall therefore write in both languages, in a way which will be similar to what Stephanie Booth does with Climb to the Stars
The second thing I have decided to do is to create a Knowledgebase, which will allow me to share some of the notes I take as part of my research activities. I have increasingly come to think that it is pointless to spend a significant amount of time accumulating research notes without sharing them with others with similar or complimentary interests. There is clearly a major flaw in the model of the lone researcher working in her/his own corner with no means of sharing content and exchanging ideas. Social Media clearly has a potential to completely change the ecology of knowledge. The idea of creating such a Knowledgebase is inspired by what David Gurteen has done with his Gurteen Knowledge site. Over the years, David has written over 5,000 pages on knowledge management, learning, creativity, innovation and personal development. My Knowledgebase will however be very different, as it won’t have a thematic unity, and will primarily consist of fragments, or gobbets, I shall be collecting, although I don’t rule out drafting short synthesis on specific themes like David does.
Overall, I am trying to conduct a systematic reflection on what could be the best strategy for my web presence, as I would like to start using my website in a more dynamic way, for it to truly become my digital home. I am currently looking at what the smartest people do in this respect. If you know of personal sites that you find particularly inspiring, please do not hesitate to share. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
