Thanks to Michael Sampson’s Daily Report of today, I have come accross a fascinating post, “Leading Ideas: Simplify Your Focus“, in which Fast Company blogger Doug Sundheim takes as a starting point this marvelous quotation:
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” (Leonardo da Vinci).
Sundheim goes on by stressing how
“Simplicity isn’t simple. Complexity is simple. Anyone can make something complex. [...] Sophistication lies in your ability to SIMPLIFY complexity.”
A way to achieve this can be, the New York Executive Coach suggests, to determine the three main things you are committed to complete without fail each day.
I was especially interested in this post, as I have been conducting a little experiment, along very similar lines, since I started using Highrise, nearly two weeks ago. Inspired by the concept of the American Digest’s “Not Insane” To-Do List, I have tried to focus each day on three main daily tasks, one of which consist in spending quality time working on the academic article, I am currently writing-up. It has been working very well so far, although writing in a foreign language always can be a very frustrating process and invariably does take much longer than expected.
